Two fibres. We got good at them.
Jute.
What it is.
Jute is a fast-growing plant fiber from the Ganges Delta. It's harvested annually, retted, spun, and woven by hand. Our jute comes in spun and woven in Kerala, India, with an SA8000-certified manufacturing partner.
How it wears.
Jute sheds for the first few week or so, sometimes a few weeks if you have hardwood. Vacuum often. After the shedding period, jute gets better with use; it softens and the surface texture relaxes. Direct sun will lighten the fiber over years. Spills come up with water if you catch them fast. Don't put jute in a wet bathroom.
What it's good for.
What it's bad at.
Wet spaces. Bathrooms, laundry rooms, anywhere with regular moisture. Jute doesn't rot quickly but it doesn't recover well. Keep jute to dry rooms and it will reward you for years.

Wool-Jute.
What it is.
A blend of natural wool and jute that gives you more underfoot than pure jute without losing the organic, textural quality. The wool softens the hand of the fibre, noticeable barefoot in a bedroom or living room. The jute keeps the structure honest.
How it wears.
Wool-jute sheds less than pure jute in the first few weeks. The bouclé weave holds its shape well under regular foot traffic. Spills clean up with cool water and a cloth. Keep it out of wet spaces, the jute component doesn't like sustained moisture.
What it's good for.
What it's bad at.
Outdoor use, kitchens, bathrooms, or anywhere with spills and moisture. The wool softness comes with the same moisture limitation as jute. Choose the room with moisture in mind and this blend will hold its character.
