From one coast to another.
North Avalon takes its name from the Sydney beach town our family called home for fifteen years. Set between the Pacific and a broad waterway, it shaped a way of living defined by natural light, open doors and an easy relationship between indoors and out.
When we later moved to San Diego, the landscape changed but the feeling was familiar. North Avalon carries that connection forward: relaxed, natural and considered, without ever feeling arranged.
Australian design, brought closer.
North Avalon also began through a childhood friendship with Monique, founder of the Australian rug brand Zebra Home.
North Avalon brought her Australian-designed collection of jute and jute-wool rugs to the United States, sharing a belief in natural materials, restrained design and pieces intended for everyday life.
Handmade in Kerala. Four generations deep.
Every North Avalon rug is handwoven in a single family workshop in Kerala, where the fourth generation now works the looms the business was built on. The jute is grown in the Ganges delta, spun in Bangladesh and woven by hand, with an SA8000-certified manufacturing partner, audited for fair pay and worker welfare.
Our signature bouclé rises to roughly half an inch, thick rows that give natural fibre shadow, dimension and genuine visual weight. There is no glued backing: what you see is the weave itself, front and back.
